Cape Cod's invasive species, Gatsby's debauchery, and Pride's shirtless men
I am headed to Encore this week.
HBS Wrap: 200 of us set up camp at Old Silver Beach for Labor Day Weekend — no one sadly, wore a speedo; grads mixed with Cape Cod teens at Pier 37, the perfect Nikki Beach x Jersey Shore hybrid; respectable-looking gentlemen and feather-donning ladies funneled into Boston’s mecca, Royale — 1.5 hours later they were keeled over on the sidewalk; Pride was objectively steamier and sexier because the gays will always throw a better party.
A dear classmate reminded me:
“I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.”
— F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
We are starting to get comfortable with one another, I fear.
Last week
On Middlesex —
I counted five very good dancers. Everyone else seems to have mastered disinterested standing. Ayinde killed it on the decks.
On Pier 37 (Cape Cod) —
Pier 37 was mayhem Saturday night with HBSers jumping the line in front of other obvious HBSers and trying to bribe bouncers to get into this random coastal bar like it’s Outer Heaven or Gospel.
On Gatsby at Royale —
On the line to get in…weird, long, and slow for no reason. Sort of like the dating pool.
Shoutout to the nerds that finally got drunk enough to make the first move on their roster of crushes on the dance floor.
Section X lasted less than an hour from their perch before they joined the plebs.
On Pride at Venu —
I’ve heard the percentage of LGBTQ folks always goes up by graduation, never down. Perhaps we are seeing some budding instance of this.
The most amount of making out I saw all week was at pride.
Gays, theys, and of course…straights. If you didn’t take your shirt off and sweat to Gimme Gimme in the side room, were you really at 80s?
Not sure why that group of ECs decided to take off their shirts…I mean, they’re hot so good for them.
This Week
Dancing on the Charles is happening all day today till 11pm. Soul Clap, Rimarkable, Trip Report, and Cakewalk are djing.
Klaudia Gawlas is doing a set in Cambridge tonight with The Consciousness and Steph Angel.
Rome is djing Bijou tonight. I actually liked the set up of this club. But it was very very cold. Bring a sweater!
Wednesday, AABA is hosting their annual Masquerade at Encore. A carbon copy of the Vegas Encore, the hotel/casino rises out of the ashes of industrial Mass, attracting Chinese tourists, Mass locals, and the occasional Harvard/MIT student.
Thursday, the Euro Club is hosting La Dolca Vita at Boston’s hottest! club! Caveau. I will be photographing this one. Do not miss!
That night UK duo Kassian are djing Middlesex.
Freddy K and Ketzaal are djing Manray Friday night.
There will always be another party, but there will always be another p-set. Choose wisely. Enjoy yourselves.
NYC Highlights!
Dojo Pomodoro returns tonight — a delectable, wildly pleasurable night at Jean’s.
Highsnobiety x Club Chess are teaming up tonight with Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches), Harmony, and Quiet Luke. God I wish I could go to this one.
November Girl is hosting their ep release show tonight. They’ll be performing and so will Savoia. The party is hosted by Ben Doctor and GRBG GRL.
Pan Arcadia and Kiki Kramer are performing at Gonzo’s Wednesday.
Mayback is throwing a party, hosted by NY’s one and only Matt Weinberger, Dark PR, Priv.y, and Frances. Zita, Bloodfairy, Crush Sahara, Dese, and Knives are djing. Friday the 13th at Early Terrible.
Sofia D’Angelo, Darla Dean Lewis, and Rorey are at Arelene’s Grocery September 19th.
Mirror Selfies
I cannot wait for my section to roast me.
